The Presidents of the most important European and global road associations as well as top executives of the international motorway industry attended ASECAPDays 2019, the European Toll Road Infrastructure Operator Association’s annual Congress which took place in Costa Navarino, Messinia, Greece, hosted by HELLASTRON, Greece’s Tollroad Association.
Over 300 participants from 29 countries listened to outgoing ASECAP and HELLASTRON President Mr. Bill Halkias introducing ASECAPDays 2019 central theme, “Tomorrow’s Mobility is Here Today” and emphasizing the need to prepare for the drastic changes imminent on roads and motorways due to the new technological revolutions. Mr. Halkias has been unanimously elected President of the Geneva-based IRF (International Road Federation), succeeding Mr. Kiran Kapila. Mr. Christophe Boutin of French Motorway Association ASFA and Mr. Stavros Stavris of GEFYRA SA are taking over from Mr. Halkias as Presidents of ASECAP and HELLASTRON respectively. US-based IBTTA’s (International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association) top management was also present at the Congress, headed by IBTTA President Christopher Tomlinson.
ASECAPDays 2019 proceedings focused on the changes affecting road transport infrastructures and Mobility in general due to technological evolution, the growth of urban populations, trends in financing, the digital revolution and the new institutional framework needed to accommodate all of these and the conclusion drawn will inform interested parties as they prepare for the future.
